This is my 3rd pen from Everyday Karas and is another great entry to their lineup. The machining and materials are great quality and the feel in hand is excellent. As was also the case with one of my Basiks, the mechanism was pretty gritty/crunchy for the first couple of days, but broke in nicely and is silky smooth to actuate, now. Also, the Schmidt EasyFlow 9000 refill is a fantastic addition. I'm very pleased and at this price point, I think the Compakt is a no-brainer!

The Compakt has been my favorite pen so far. It's the perfect size and its so light. The insert you sent with it has been my favorite ink so far. It's almost like a hybrid ink and writes so smooth.

I'm still developing thoughts about this pen and how I will use it every day, but here is what I have so far:
1) It is lightweight and still solid. It is not cumbersome to use and feels sturdy, despite being smaller than the basik 001. I've been rotating the a basik 001 and a copper basik 006, so the weight of this pen played a mind game at first.
2) The J-Bolt has great tension and remains secure during writing.
3) The Parker-style refil compatibility, especially with the Fisher Space Pen refil, is a very nice feature. I carry this pen and the basik 001 together so I have a gel and ballpoint option easily on hand.
4) I wasn't sure about the aesthetic at first, but it is growing on me. The pen looks like a small piece of bamboo and the ridges are well-placed so as not to get in the way or be uncomfortable, while still giving it good grip points.
5) LOVE the tumbled finish. Smooth and a bit more matte, without being dull.
6) The pen can be clipped in my pocket with my pocket knife and it stays put and doesn't slide around. It effectively disappears (in a good way) and I can sit down with it and not get jabbed in the leg.
