First time planting winter rye

The bags of seeds were clear of any debris or foreign seeds. I planted them in my garden for the winter and they are growing very well. I am looking forward to some green manure next growing season.

Once again I needed to

Once again I needed to delay planting until rain was predicted. Seeding was completed on October 25, 2024. A sufficient rain came on November 2. Today is November 8, 2024 and the seed has germinated and is approximately 2 inches high. I looks healthy. Prior to planting I ran a disc over the area to be planted and then a box blade to level out the site. I used straw lightly upon sowing as drought conditions have been in effect in the Zone 9 region.

Tomatoes by the Ocean

We live by the ocean in NJ which has sandy soil. I have 7, five gallon buckets which I grow my tomatoes in. I have used True-Life winter rye for the past few years and I get great results. Nothing can compare to a Jersey tomato.
