This Is Another Winner From VS!
Vinegar Syndrome is my absolute go-to for restored movies, PERIOD! They are absolutely peerless in this field. This particular movie is pretty awesome! I love the pacing, the characters, and the order they appear in the movie as well! It kept my interest from beginning to end, and I definitely recommend it!
Fascinating William Castle deepcut
I had been wanting to see Shanks after reading Castle's autobiography a couple of years ago so was pleased to get this release in 4K to boot. Excellent image and sound quality and a modest but worthy set of extras add context to understanding the film.
Some good performances but not for me
This one is okay. My least favorite releasw from Cinématographe at this point. The performances of Marceau and the other Zombie Mime Puppets are excellent and there are some genuinely good laughs here but it moves very slowly and I had a really hard time paying attention all the way through. Also, almost any time Celia is on screen, I started to tune out. The third act is a bit of a mess, the Zombie Mime Puppets vs Biker gang fights were entertaining, but there just doesn't seem to be any stakes and it made for a tough watch. I see some stuff I really like and some stuff I really couldn't care less about, but it's still an interesting piece of cinema to be sure.
