Robert Altman period piece
Not Robert altman’s best film but still a pretty good film. As usual packaged in a great digital book with real good special features. Recommended

Beautiful edition
My patience was rewarded and I was able to finally pick this up during the Valentine’s Day sale. Despite being one of the major, to me at least, New Hollywood, directors, it always feels like Robert Altman is criminally under appreciated compared to some of his contemporaries, despite most of his 70s output being widely available on Blu-ray. I’m hoping that will eventually change, and I’ll advocate for Thieves Like Us as a particularly overlooked doomed lovers tale with a class-consciousness twist about those just beyond the edges of the mythology of the self and the New Deal, and how both individual and state violence reverberates across communities and generations. A lovely transfer, with beautiful grain and striking pops of color against the largely dilapidated depression-era setting, that benefits Altman’s characteristically soft photography. Packaging is luxe and certainly feels like the definitive edition of the film. Highly recommended!
